Oyster Shell Suction Dredge
Repairing the Dredge

We are repairing damage to the boom on the 1/32" scale Oyster Shell Suction Dredge for the San Mateo County Historical Museum. Curater Dana Neitzel wishes to add the model, which is in storage, to a current display in the San Mateo County History Museum. This model not only has exceptional detail & craftsmanship, the model has motorized operational features including two directions of movement for the hinged boom, two directions of movement for the stilt and one direction of rotation for the shaft and turbine cutter.

This museum is housed in the old domed court house in Redwood City, California. The museum has some outstanding displays including ships of the world, a terrific collection of models of old vessels. Also, a collection of miniature saddles whose worksmanship is incredible. Besides the great museum, seeing the architecture of the building is worth the tour. Great tile floors, exquisite woodwork, and the fabulous dome with its stained glass windows. Check it out!

Review of Julie's Cantina & Dance Hall
May/June 2010 S-Gaugian by Gerry Evans

Gerry Evans works in S scale, and does very meticulous craftsman quality modeling. We visited Gerry & his wife in Flagstaff, Arizona while returning from the Narrow Gauge Convention in Colorado Springs in September 2009. Gerry has a terrific presentation of his work on large screen HD TV. Many of his models are displayed on top of the kitchen cabinets. The kitchen & living room have a very high ceiling, so the models can also be viewed from the top of the stairs.

Gerry calls attention to some gliches he confronted while building the kit. All these issues have been addressed. (He received one of the first cantinas we shipped) One problem he had that is not mentioned in the review is the can of adobe mud drying out. We now ship the AMK Adobe Mud in a pint tin can like those used for paint or putty, so it will remain workable for years.

G Scale Wolf Creek Roundhouse & Machine Shop

Rich from San Jose California is building our Wolf Creek Roundhouse & Machine Shop in G scale. Rich cuts his own scale lumber. As the pictures show, Rich is a master woodworker. Besides model railroading, Rich markets wonderful artistic wood turnings and teaches wood lathe work. Visit his web site, www.latheart.com to see what he does.
Rich made some minor changes to our plans, planking the roof, and boarding the openings in the clerestory. He also made the roof removable, a very good idea...
